Range Builder is one of the core features of GTO Wizard. It allows you to define a strategy for any situation, preflop or postflop, and then compare it to GTO. This type of training is significantly more effective and engaging than regular drills and allows you to quickly identify blind spots and subtle leaks in spots.

How to Use GTO Wizard's Range Builder

First, choose a solution (for example, for 100bb stacks in 6-max with rake at NL50) and the line you want to analyze. You can specify a specific board or board texture, as well as set the difficulty level: in the easy level, you simply choose between betting and checking, while in the more difficult levels, you choose between different sizings.

The settings are quite flexible.

You can set a strategy (shown in the program interface as a coloring scheme: red for bets, green for checks) for any hand category or combination: for example, select all flush draws or Q5s and manually set the frequencies.

Organizing by category is more convenient.

Once the strategy is set, click the "Verify" button in the bottom right corner to evaluate how accurate it is compared to GTO, from 0 to 100%.

The program shows which hand categories you're playing furthest from the optimal strategy. You can compare any specific hand within the range, or one range against another.

The developed strategy can then be used to test your knowledge of preflop ranges and correct reactions to opponents' openings. To do this, go to Range Builder from the "Practice" tab, select the difficulty level, a predefined solution (e.g., BU vs BB with 30-blind stacks), and the specific action you want to practice, then click the "START BUILDING" button.

If you want to analyze a postflop spot, select the "Postflop included" button in the Solutions Library section of the top menu. If there's no ready-made solution for the spot you need, you can create one using GTO Wizard AI and then work on it in Range Builder:

  1. In the AI solution, click on the "Saved spots" icon (in the far left corner, looks like a floppy disk).
  2. Enter a short description and save it
  3. In the Practice tab, select Range builder, click on the Saved spots icon again and select the desired spot from the saved ones.

This method allows you to practice building ranges for a simplified custom solution with a single bet size instead of the multiple bet sizes that are available in ready-made solutions.

How to Train More Effectively with Range Builder

Choose specific spots to analyze. Before training, find a starting point and understand which strategies need to be covered. For example, what range to c-bet on monotonous boards, or which hands the big blind check-raises against openers from early position. The more specific your request, the more useful your training will be.

Determine the appropriate difficulty level. It's best to start with fewer spots. In Easy mode, you can eliminate mixed strategies and focus on basic single-option decisions—and move on to more advanced levels after mastering the general frequencies of folding, calling, and raising.

Don't chase perfectionism. Striving for perfection is a good thing, but memorizing the exact mixed frequencies for every spot will do more harm than good. The difference between 95% and 100% accuracy isn't that significant; it's better to sacrifice a few percent and explore more strategies than to fixate on one.

Don't be careless about common mistakes. Maintaining balance is essential! Before moving forward, make sure you're defining your ranges accurately enough.

Develop a practice plan. If you spend a session practicing unrelated situations, it will be difficult to commit each one to long-term memory. For example, beginning MTT players should focus on practicing starting ranges from different positions at the same depth before moving on to other stages.

Don't neglect comparing similar situations. If you practice constructing preflop ranges in chipEV, it's useful to look at similar ICM decisions to understand how the range changes as the tournament progresses.
