Mikita's Rise to Live and Online Poker Dominance

Mikita Badziakouski was born on February 6, 1992, and learned to play chess at just five years old. He recounted this on the PartyPoker blog: “When I was five, I started learning chess, and by the time I was ten, I was spending hours playing cards. At twelve, I tried sports betting for the first time, which became my main interest for the next four years until I discovered poker. I can say with certainty that since I was a child, my greatest passions have been intellectual rivalry and games, so poker was the ideal blend of both. I was destined to become obsessed with a game.”

Regarding the origin of his nickname, he said: “My first contact with poker occurred at age 16, when I watched episodes of the WSOP Main Event on television, and the idea of attending this special event became one of my dreams. I quickly realized that I wouldn't turn 21 until 2013, so I chose the nickname “fish2013” which you can find me using when playing online.”

This is what he said after winning: “Honestly, the bracelet isn’t as important to me as it is to many other players. I’ll just say that winning a High Roller feels great. I’ve played many final tables. You just try to do your best; there are no special or unique ideas. You just do what you’ve learned before, and that’s it.”

In 2023, he secured another victory in the Big One For One Drop tournament, which featured 17 $1 million entries and was played at the Wynn in Las Vegas. The finalists included Dan Smith, Isaac Haxton, and Nick Petrangelo. Badziakouski defeated Mario Mosböck heads-up to win the largest live tournament of his career: $7.1 million.

Winner's statement: “It feels incredible, it's my first WPT and Wynn finish. I loved playing here and it's become one of my favorite places to play poker. It was a different final table, as we weren't in the money yet and I tried not to let the money bubble affect my game.”
