Online poker is mostly split into two categories:
Real Money Poker Sites: These poker rooms are built around deposits and withdrawals, and almost every game has a real money buy-in, aside from freerolls. | Free Poker Sites: These take a casual approach to the game. You earn experience, but never pay to play. However, the games are usually not realistic. |
Poker Patio was built to be different. It’s free-to-play poker for people who still want a competitive game.
Since launching in 2023, the platform upgraded from simple Texas Hold'em online games into a larger platform with public tables, private games, leaderboards, and even single player poker against bots for training. Tournaments are coming soon as well.
The mission for Poker Patio is to make playing easy and competitive, with no cost for players to enter games.
Poker Without the Real-Money Barrier
There are plenty of reasons someone might want to play poker without depositing money.
- New players may want to learn games and understand the rules.
- Experienced players might want somewhere to play more casually.
- Regulars might want to try out new formats, without diving into real money games.
- Some might want competitive games, but aren't interested in playing for it.
On Poker Patio, players can play free poker directly in their browser, without an need to download apps. Joining public tables against other players right away, with no obstacles.
Just visit the site, choose a poker game you like, and start playing.

The Public Tables
Public tables are at the center of the site. You’ll be going up against real people, without any financial risk.
Players compete using virtual chips, at several different stakes. Once you earn more of the virtual chips, it may be time to move up the stakes. Newer players can start at the lowest stakes, while players with larger chip balances sit in higher-stakes games.

The Leaderboards
Playing without real money doesn't mean there can't be competition. In fact, there needs to be competition. The downfall of most free poker sites is that nobody cares about results, since there is no incentive to play well.
On Poker Patio, the chip profit leaderboards completely change that. Regular players rank based on their results over longer periods rather than looking only at individual sessions. This puts Poker Patio in a different league compared to other free poker apps.

The leaderboards rank players based on their net chip profit, showing who has won the most chips over a given period. Players with a negative chip profit remain unranked until they move back into profit.
There are monthly leaderboards, and all-time leaderboards, with minimum-hand requirements to be eligible. Monthly rankings give players a new competition each month, while the all-time leaderboard tracks results over a much longer period.
The leaders get recognized, and it's also a tool to see who’s playing the best. A session can affect where a player sits in the rankings, and regulars can see how their results compare with others.
The Private Tables
Home games, or private games, have always been a major part of the game, and not just online. There’s nothing like sending some invites to friends and picking who sits in the seats.
Poker Patio's private lobbies are designed to bring it online, without cost. Play poker with friends by creating a private lobby and inviting others directly into the game.

Hosting private games is simple:
- Create a game.
- Set the rules and stakes.
- Invite other players.
- Play through your browser.
When you’re playing against friends, the competitiveness is through the roof (in the best way). Thoughts about leaderboards and chips go out the window. These games are for bragging rights, a currency that is priceless.
Tournaments (Coming Soon)
Multi-table tournaments are the next major addition to Poker Patio. The platform is currently developing its tournament system, which will introduce scheduled events where players start with tournament stacks and compete until the remaining players reach the payout positions. Just like a normal tournament, except completely free.
Events will be available across different virtual-chip buy-ins, allowing players with different bankrolls to participate.

The tournament schedule will probably have larger weekly events and occasional special tournaments, alongside the daily games. For players who prefer structured competition to regular tables, it will add another way to play free poker.
