PlayNow Poker Review for Players in Canada

In this PlayNow Poker review, we’ll explore one of the best regulated rooms in Canada, specifically offering games for players in British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.

The list of games is long and full of niche formats, alongside the popular ones like Hold’em and Omaha. All cash games, SNGs, spins, and tournaments use the Canadian dollar (CAD). On top of their unusual range of game types, PlayNow Poker also has a large bad beat jackpot, a smaller micro bad beat jackpot, and even a high hand payout.

As long as you live in the three provinces that PlayNow Poker serves, you can play on any mobile device or computer operating system.

How to Register & Log In to PlayNow Poker

Registration for PlayNow Poker is less streamlined than on other online poker sites, but this is the price players should be happy to pay for a safe and highly regulated environment.

• To start, make sure you can prove each of these:
• You’re 19 years of age or older
• You’re a resident of British Columbia, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan
• You can verify the two points above with a driver's license, passport, utilitiy bill, and in some cases, even more documentation.

In our test, a British Columbia resident tried to create an account with a Canadian passport, bank statement, and selfie, but further documents were required. PlayNow is very strict about this verification step, and it cannot be bypassed.

Steps to Create a PlayNow Account

1. Visit the PlayNow online web page and select Join in the top right corner. Whether you’re playing poker games, casino games, or betting on sports, this step is the same.

2. Select the province you will be playing from. Choose British Columbia, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan.

3. Choose a bonus. There is no bonus marked for poker players, unfortunately. Only lottery, casino, and sports betting options.

4. Enter your name, email, address, and birthdate. PlayNow will use this to verify that you’re a resident of the province you chose in step 2.

5. Create account details and security measures. Pick a username, password, and answers to two security questions.

6. Responsible gambling. At this step, you can set a play time limit or a loss limit covering casino, poker, and bingo.

7. User agreements and marketing opt-in. Read and agree to the different policies.

8. Verify your ID. Scan your ID (a driver’s license or provincial ID card), then take a selfie.

If you successfully verified, you’ll be one step closer to sitting at the PlayNow table. If not, you’ll have to contact support directly by live chat or a phone call to finish registration.

PlayNow Poker is available on Windows and macOS computers, as well as iOS and Android mobile devices. The poker client must be downloaded or installed, as browser-based play is not supported.

All of the PlayNow Online Poker Games

PlayNow has cash games, tournaments, sit and go, along with spin and go. Player traffic in these games comes from British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and also Quebec from the OK POKER platform.

All games are played in Canadian dollars (CAD). We’ll explain the formats, stakes, and other details about each variety.

PlayNow Cash Games

There is a very wide range of cash game formats to play, as long as the traffic is there. Of course, the more niche formats on PlayNow won’t always have the player numbers at the stakes you want. For Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha, this is not a problem. Check the format, stakes, and table sizes below:

In Six Plus Hold’em, every player posts an ante and the button posts an additional blind, usually equal to the ante. Italiano is PlayNow’s name for Five Card Draw 7-A.

PlayNow Real Money Tournaments & Freerolls

Even though the player pool is relatively small, the tournament lobby has a nice range of buy-ins and guarantees. Larger prize pools come less frequently, but the daily schedule could be perfect for low to mid-stakes tournament players.

The largest prize pool we saw on the schedule was $100,000 CAD, a $320 entry tournament supported by satellites that start at $0.01. This appears to be a monthly fixture, and offers truly significant value, with a high potential to overlay.

PlayNow’s real money freeroll schedule is excellent for such a small site:

• $10 CAD hourly freerolls run daily from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT.
• Daily $10 CAD Loyalty Freerolls run twice a day and require 10 raked hands played that day.
• The daily $25 CAD Loyalty Freeroll requires 25 raked hands played over the last three days.
• Weekly $150 CAD and $400 CAD Loyalty Freerolls require 100 and 200 raked hands respectively during the week.
• The monthly $1,000 CAD Loyalty Freeroll requires 400 raked hands during the month.

The fields for these freerolls are guaranteed to be small, so the ones with larger guarantees offer great value.

PlayNow Sit & Go (SNG)

Unfortunately, the SNG scene on PlayNow appears to be completely devoid of players.

At the time we checked, around 11 AM on Saturday in British Columbia, there was only one player registered for sit and go tournaments. So despite having Hold’em, Omaha, Stud, and Draw SNGs, the player base doesn’t seem active in this part of the app. It’s possible that more activity picks up in the evenings.

Buy-ins range from $0.55 CAD to $515 CAD, in several formats. There are some unusual variants too, such as Challenge SNGs that last 25 hands or 25 minutes. Players cannot be eliminated: their chip stacks reset after each hand, while their scores track the total chips won or lost. The players with the highest scores share the prize pool when the hand or time limit is reached.

PlayNow Spin & Go

Slot & Go is the PlayNow branding of spins. This area of the app is a bit busier than the Sit & Go section, but still quite quiet. At 11 AM on a Saturday, only three players were waiting in the lobby. Here are the minimum and maximum prize pools for each Slot & Go buy-in:

At the minimum multiplier, the heads-up winner receives 1.3 times the buy-in, a net profit of 30%. The three-player minimum is twice the buy-in. The table shows total prize pools: at the highest multiplier, the winner receives 80%, so a $25 CAD Slot & Go can award up to $60,000 CAD to first place.

PlayNow Bonus, Promotions, & Rakeback Guide

While the welcome bonuses are tuned for the casino crowd, PlayNow does have real money promotions and rakeback waiting for poker players.

Welcome Bonus / First Deposit Bonus

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. PlayNow has no official poker bonus when you sign up or make a first deposit. They have a match bonus up to $1,500 CAD for casino players, bonus bets for sports, and a long list of other promotions, but nothing for poker players.

Rake Race Leaderboards

A $20,000 CAD rake race runs monthly. There are 100 cash prizes, with first place getting $2,500 CAD.

New races start at 00:00 PT / 02:00 CT every month.

PlayNow Poker Jackpots

PlayNow Poker has three different jackpots available at selected cash game tables: the Bad Beat Jackpot, Micro Bad Beat Jackpot, and High Hand Jackpot.

Bad Beat Jackpot: A player must lose with four of a kind eights or better. The hand must go to showdown, both hole cards must be used, and at least four players must be dealt into the hand and still be seated when the jackpot is triggered. Each qualifying raked pot contributes $0.50 CAD to the jackpot pool. At the time of writing, the PlayNow Bad Beat Jackpot sits at $141,822.60 CAD.

Micro Bad Beat Jackpot: This smaller version follows similar rules, but the losing hand only needs four of a kind twos or better. It’s available at designated Hold’em tables marked with a blue chip featuring a B. The same requirements for the number of players, hole cards, and showdown apply. At the time of writing, this Micro BBJ pool was up to $3,577.17 CAD.

High Hand Jackpot: A player must make a ten-high straight flush or better at selected Hold’em cash game tables. Both hole cards must be used, and at least four players must be dealt into the hand and remain seated when the jackpot is awarded. Unlike the Bad Beat Jackpots, this one doesn’t require a showdown.

For the Bad Beat Jackpot, 20% of the pool goes toward the next jackpot and 10% is taken by the room for its Network Promotional Fund. The remaining 70% is paid out as follows:

The jackpot amounts change over time, so the figures shown in the lobby are the best reference for the current pools.

PlayNow Rakeback (PxP Points)

For every $0.25 you rake on PlayNow in any of their real money poker games, you get 1 PXP + Reward. A PXP + Reward is a point that you can redeem for real money tournaments and sit & go tournaments.

But unfortunately, this style of rakeback is not going to suit PlayNow’s cash game players. On top of that, the returns are quite low compared to how much rake a player generates. Additionally, the minimum you can redeem is 1,000 PXP +, which is equal to $250 CAD rake generated. For example:

So essentially, PlayNow offers 4% rakeback, which is almost no rakeback at all. However, PlayNow occasionally runs limited-time PXP promotions that offer more tournament credits than the standard redemption rate. For example, in October 2026, players could redeem 1,000 PXP for $20 CAD in tournament credits, doubling the standard value to an equivalent 8% return. Similar promotions may be offered again in the future, giving players an opportunity to get more value from their PXP.

Rake for PlayNow Poker Games

Tournament rake on PlayNow is set at a 10% maximum of the buy-in. So for a $10 CAD buy-in, the maximum rake would be $1.

Cash game rake is 5%, which is fairly standard for online poker. However, the cap for any cash game is $1.50 to $3. That means incredibly low rake at mid-stakes and high-stakes tables.

At a mid-stakes table like $2/$4 CAD, that’s less than 1 BB. At a high-stakes table like $20/$40 CAD, that’s less than 1% of a BB. This cap really works well for players and negates the lack of rakeback on PlayNow cash game tables.

*At High Limit tables, rake depends on pot size: $0.50 for a $30 pot, $1 for $40, $1.50 for $50, $2 for $70, $2.50 for $85, and $3 for $100.

**At $0.02/$0.04 NL/PL tables, $0.01 is taken when the pot reaches $0.10, $0.20, and $0.60, followed by another $0.01 for every additional $0.20, up to the cap.

Deposit and Withdrawal Methods on PlayNow Poker

Players can use a variety of deposit methods on PlayNow Poker, with a low minimum of $5 CAD for most options.

Cryptocurrency is not supported on PlayNow, unless you withdraw from your exchange, then send funds from other sources, like a credit card or debit card.

Withdrawals can only be made to bank accounts via Electronic Funds Transfer (unless it’s a $25,000,000 CAD withdrawal, which would be very rare on this poker site). Players also have to provide their occupation to successfully withdraw.
