Gal Yifrach: A Story of Illegal Gambling, Money Laundering, & ICE
Gal Yifrach was a bit of an early Garrett Adelstein.
From our angle, Gal looked like a thoughtful, calculating player, all over the high-stakes cash game scene in LA. Most of us first saw him on Live at the Bike, then at Hustler Casino Live. He wasn't one of the highest HCL earners, but he's made over $200,000.
He also dabbled in tournaments, winning a WSOP bracelet and over $2.9 million since 2011. This guy’s talented, performing in all areas, except one, away from the cameras and cards.

Gal was indicted in connection with an illegal gambling business and a conspiracy to launder its proceeds. That was in 2022, but he’s now detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement since July 20th, 2026.
Let’s get into the story, and see how Gal got here.
Gal Indicted in 2022 with Three Others
In March 2022, Gal Yifrach, Nick Shkolnik, Shalom Ifrah, and Schneur Zalman Getzel Rosenfeld were all indicted. The group were charged with operating an illegal gambling business and conspiracy to commit money laundering, but not equally.
- Shkolnik was charged with operating an illegal gambling business
- Ifrah and Rosenfeld both hit with charges to conspiracy to commit money laundering
- Gal was slapped with both kinds of charges

The crime was explained in a DOJ press release.
The group ran an illegal gambling operation with video slots and other forms of betting in Eastern California, plus a few other places.
Gal and Ifrah apparently handled the laundering, using casinos and small bank deposits to fly under the radar. It looks like he was exchanging casino chips for cash, swapping that money for checks, then making a deposit. The casino he was using? Authorities say it was in Bell Gardens, California, and there’s really only one there. It’s The Bicycle, home of Live at the Bike.
It was on Live at the Bike where we saw Gal make an insane hero call. It's definitely worth a watch.
Yosef Beshari, charged in a different place, upgraded the laundering system with checks, direct deposits, and transfers to an escrow company. He pleaded guilty almost immediately after the indictment.
He wasn't the only one to fold. Rosenfeld's case was wrapped up with a judgment in November 2024, and Shkolnik's followed in February 2025. Gal is the last of the original group still fighting his charges.
If convicted, Gal could spend up to 25 years behind bars and potentially be on the hook for millions.
- Count 1 – Illegal Gambling Operation: Maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
- Count 2 – Money Laundering: Maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, or twice the value of the monetary instrument or funds involved, whichever is greater.
That means that a maximum of 25 years is on the table, plus potentially twice the value of the funds involved. In our opinion, those funds could be significantly more than $750,000.
The indictment sought forfeiture of assets, which included more than $500,000 and three Los Angeles properties.
Gal was detained, labeled a flight risk, and then released on bond on April 4th, 2022. Maybe he had a strong legal team.
His conditions were strict, apparently including:
- Electronic monitoring
- Handing over his passport
- Restriction to a certain area of California
- 10 pm to 6 am curfew
- DNA submission
- No firearms
- No contact with any of the co-defendants
- No disposing of assets over $5,000
And After the 2022 Indictment, Gal Waited
You’d think that a case from four years ago would be finished by now, but Gal Yifrach didn’t see a jail cell until July of 2026.
His travel restrictions started to ease in early 2023. On January 6th, the court let him off electronic monitoring and curfew for a set stretch of dates, and after a few more of those approved windows, a May 23rd order removed some of his conditions for good.
Two years after the indictment, in 2024, the government brought forward 142,000 pages of evidence. This delayed things even more, as the defense worked through the mountain of documents for discovery.
And then, in 2025, a grand jury did something that made Gal’s situation even worse. They kept his charges the same, but applied an extension to them. Anything illegal that Gal did after 2022 was now on the table and could be used to add more punishment.
That same superseding indictment also pulled two new names into the case (Jesus Cisneros-Sanchez and Phuoc Tran), both now active co-defendants alongside Gal.
He Didn’t Stop Winning
Despite a terrifying legal sentence hanging over his head, Gal still performed.
In 2025, he had his biggest tournament score ever at the PokerStars North American Poker Tour. Our pretrial cash game star fought through a 405-entry field in the $5,300 buy-in event for a $543,025 prize.

After being detained and indicted in 2022, then getting out on bond, Gal has won over $850,000 from live tournaments. But in the year of the indictment, he only cashed online, with eight cashes in the GGPoker WSOP Online events.
Most likely, Gal’s bond conditions made live games impossible, but he was back on the scene in 2023. No buy-ins above $5,000, except in his big NAPT win for over half a million.
ICE Detains Gal at Los Angeles Airport
The details here are a little unclear, but let’s get into it. On July 20, 2026, Gal Yifrach was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. There’s no word on where he was going or coming from.
You might think that Gal was trying to leave the country. With ongoing court proceedings and potential bond conditions, that would have set off a million alarm bells, and it would explain ICE showing up.
If Gal was trying to run, there's an obvious problem with that theory. The court was holding his U.S. passport, and nothing in the record shows it was ever handed back to him. Then again, a second passport isn't out of the question, but we can’t confirm it.

Another of the group members, Ifrah, was cleared to fly to Israel more than once and later to Italy. Shkolnik got the green light for Israel too, flying out of LAX. Gal never got the same green light, and never got his passport back from the courts.
The truth is, nobody knows yet why Gal Yifrach was detained by ICE in July.
It’s likely related to his case, but we just can’t say for sure yet. We will keep this page updated.
Whatever Gal is charged for, his reputation will still be cleaner than Nick Vertucci's.
