MMAsherdog shared 5 poker rules that players usually learn the hard way:

1) Don't lend players you barely know money—always have a written agreement and ask yourself how it benefits you

2) Poker players love talking about big wins—don't assume those are real results

3) Don't trust a friend of a friend—avoid business deals until you've actually gotten to know them

4) Everyone gets scammed at some point—if you didn’t lose big, you learned a cheap lesson

5) Grinding hard doesn’t mean you made lots of money—review your approach and cut what isn’t working

Sam Greenwood collected the most absurd hands throughout the main tournament. At the end, he made a top 10 compliation, scored out of 100, and Eric Afriat took a confident first place, throwing away a full house on the river on the seventh day of the 2025 WSOP.

Jason Moe warned that GGPoker's former golden boy Elky is in serious financial trouble:

– Just a PSA to all on financial dealings with Elky, Over the past year he has engaged in repeated unethical behavior of borrowing money and not paying back resulting in 7 figures of debt. I’ve considered him a close friend for quite some time but going forward I can’t condone this type of behavior and am obligated to warn and protect others

“This is insane,” Patrick Leonard was taken aback. “Legit best access to games in the world on and offline, insane rake/sponsorship as GG lead ambassador with one of biggest private clubs and a direct link to the sharpest minds in the crypto space. Very sad. Hope everybody involved gets paid.”

At the end of last year, when closed Exclusive Games appeared on GG, Elky was one of the most active participants there and, according to eyewitnesses, played as if he didn’t care about money. Just a couple of months later, in February of this year, Bertrand suddenly announced that his cooperation with GG Poker had ended.

GGPoker is a Hold’em and Omaha focused site on the Good Game Network. Offering a broad range of playing formats such as Randomised Sit & Gos, All-in or Fold, and 6+ Short Deck as well as fast cash games, and a plethora of tournament series including: GGMasters, Multi Millions and Bounty Hunters.

Phil Ivey attended SneakerCon in Las Vegas, a conference for sneaker enthusiasts.

There he priced the pair at $125k.

He also brought a piece from his own collection – sneakers that Kobe Bryant wore in one of the NBA games. The market value of this pair is about $20k, but Phil offered the author of the popular channel Culture Kicks (575,000 subscribers) to flip a coin – depending on how it landed, Phil could get $0 or $42,500. Ivey won this coin flip.

A couple of years ago, Eric Persson was constantly making headlines in poker news, mostly due to his wild plays and huge losses. Lately, Eric has been less active, and it turns out that there are objective and compelling reasons for this.

Reddit users discovered that Eric's company Maverick Gaming filed for bankruptcy in mid-July.

According to court documents, the company's debts range from $100 million to $500 million.

Eric's TV cash game record has not been heading in the right direction:

Another Hustler streaming star, Nick Airball, complained about a downswing in mid-summer :

– Lost about 2.5m across a handful of sessions last week or so in Vegas. High stakes poker is the jungle. Back in Oregon with the family to celebrate July 4th, then it’s time to get out or die trying….

“Good as you play, I have no clue how this is possible…” Ben Lamb is surprised in the comments.

Three years ago, Kane Kalas revealed that he had signed a backing contract with Ian O'Hara in 2020. Ian turned out to be an enterprising guy, and it soon became clear that he was also selling shares in the same tournaments to Jonathan Jaffe. The total percentage of shares was well over 100%. Ian ended up scamming both players for a "mid-six-figure sum."

A couple of days ago , Kane announced that O'Hara had completely cleared his debts.

A good boost came from winning the $3,000 buy-in WSOP Mid-Stakes Championship. Ian received $1,189,408 for first place .

"A great precedent to set. Hope others will follow," Beriuzy said. " Good job by Ian. Very few ever end up owning their mistakes & fixing them. We should appreciate this as a community & aid others into following the same path."

– There is only one true W ever in a situation like this. Those who know, know. Possibly the greatest/ most unbelievable story in all of poker. Shout out to the most honorable man in the history of poker.

Also, its one of the best hendon mobs of all time.

In 2009, Constant Reikenberg sold more than 100% of the EPT San Remo Main Event and then accidentally won it. He later quit poker, but eventually paid everyone back according to the shares he sold. In this way, Constant gave back to the shareholders significantly more than he received for first place (€1,508,000). In the comments to Seiver's post, it was written that 163% was sold.

Allen Kessler asked the community for advice:

– Buffet waitress has brought me my 2 diet Cokes.

Has not removed any empty plates.

Buffet is closing down.

She walks up to me and says "I'm leaving", inferring that she wants a tip right now.

How much should I give her?

– Terrible service. Give her a share of your next NLH tournament, – suggested Jans Arends.

– Give her your two cents, – Ryan DePaulo offered.

– If nickel and diming a waitress at a buffet has you stressed out about what to do, go home and heat up some shit in the microwave. Jesus, – Low Limit Cash Game Podcast had a different take on the situation.

Galen Hall captured Dan Colman during one of the PokerGo series tournaments.

– LOL

Mike Matusow held a poll that got many regulars excited:

– What percentage of players who participate in fake high roller tournaments actually have money?

"Just because you can’t keep money doesn’t mean the new generation is as bad," Shaun Deeb responded cheekily. "do you know how hard it is to get a backer for 5mm a year in buy-ins? It’s not like you can sell that much in pieces."

"100% of them have more than you Mikey.," Matt Berkey replied. "Maybe sit this one out."

“The number is somewhere between 85% and 98% with the occasional 100% in some line ups,” wrote the traditionally reasonable Patrick Leonard.

“I just wanted to know how fake the high roller world really is,” Matusov tried to explain. “It’s all one big mirage! Does anyone really believe that career prize money reflects the real picture? By the way, I sold 50% of all tournaments over $10k, so I’m not hiding anything and I’m not putting on airs. I heard that 90% of the field in expensive tournaments play with 3% of themselves. If that’s true, it’s just clowning!”

“We must do something about this,” Nick Palma says . “It’s a $400 buy in. 2348 players equals $939,200 and the prize pool is now $786,580 these companies have to profit less it’s not that they aren’t gonna make money they are just greedy. They also pressure people who don’t know better to tip.”

"How much would you have left if you finished in the top 3 of a similar tournament?" the commentators asked.

– Zero, we tip anyway, even when we don’t win any prizes.

– Modern poker is not a sport and not a place to earn money, – Patrick Leonard did not miss this topic. – It is almost regular gambling, like lotteries. But in America, people spend $400 a day on a variety of things and do not expect to receive anything in return. Casinos have long been trying to turn poker into a form of entertainment and will continue to do so as long as we continue to play.

PokerGo and PokerStars are bringing back the famous National Heads-Up Championship .

The tournament was born in 2005 due to the NHL lockout. The 04/05 season was cancelled due to disagreements between the league management and the players, and the heads-up championship became one of the programs designed to fill the gap in NBC's airtime.

The last tournament was held in 2013, and Mike Matusow won. The previous tournaments always had 64 players, until 2011 the buy-in was $20,000, then it was increased to $25,000. The number of players and the buy-in of the updated tournament are still unknown. Among the participants are Michael Mizrachi, Jason Koon, Erik Seidel, Phil Galfond, Shaun Deeb, Doug Polk, Liv Boeree, Chris Moneymaker and others.

Faraz Jaka paid for his carelessness:

– Missing this text from Kenny Hallart on day 1A of the WSOP Main Event is going to cost me $200k 💸😆

Still rooting for him to take it down, one of the best guys in poker and good friend.

I’ve had this happen to me in reverse where I missed a 5% swap and won a tournament. So stuff like this doesn’t bother me, it’s all random and I just think of the EV of the original situation.

“Oh well. Butterfly effect would have changed things anyway if you replied,” Kenny reassured his friend.

The "hand of the year" was played at the Lodge Poker Club.

Nick Marchington urged people to stay away from the game in apps:

– Private app game runners are some of the biggest scumbags in gambling. These games are terrible for poker and I urge everyone to avoid almost all of them.

  • They don't create a healthy poker ecosystem.
  • Rake is often insane — almost everyone loses too fast.
  • Recs get hunted mercilessly and don’t even experience the best parts of poker.
  • Hosts prey on gambling addicts. They offer massive credit or “free play” to people they know can’t pay. it’s a concierge service so they know who’s in trouble — and they keep them playing to keep the game alive

This is NOT like losing money you bring to a casino.
In these apps, people get extended credit they can’t afford.

I heard a host laugh about how a player had to sell their house and still couldn’t cover what they owed. That person gets branded a “scammer” — while the host has made 10x in rake. It’s disgusting. The player made a big mistake but the hose is much worse.

A known player recently got “outed” online. I won’t name them.
But it looked like someone who lost control — an honest degen who got exploited by these predators.

Hosts see all the game data. Some purposely create formats where nobody can win long term. It’s rigged from the start — even without cheating.

And yes, cheating is rampant:
✅ Collusion
✅ Multi-accounting
✅ Ghosting
✅ Soft play
✅ Fake games
You name it. You’re up against way more than bad luck.

I’ve been stiffed so many times:
❌ Winning too much
❌ “Hit and running”
❌ Another player didn’t pay so we can’t pay
❌ No reason at all
No recourse. No rules. Just vibes — and scamming.

There’s so much good in poker:
🧠 Strategy
🎭 Psychology
🫂 Social fun
🔥 The thrill
Private app games are the worst part of the industry.
Many of these hosts should be ostracized from the community and we should encourage regulated safe games.

If you must play a private game, look for:
✅ Hosted inside a regulated casino
✅ No one clearly in financial trouble
✅ No wild credit lines to random “VIPs”
✅ Fun, social vibes
Poker should be fun. Don’t support predators.

On July 30, former basketball player Gilbert Arenas was arrested in Los Angeles. Five accomplices were arrested with him. One of them, named Evgeny Gershman, is, according to investigators, a major crime boss from Israel. Another, Evgeny Turevsky, had just played in the World Series and had made money several times.

All are charged with organizing illegal gambling. Arenas hosted a high-stakes Omaha game in his own mansion. The game was played on his personal table.

Arenas and his accomplices were released on $50,000 bail a few hours later. Gilbert has already pleaded not guilty, claiming he was merely renting out the property. His trial is set for Sept. 23.
