2026 WSOP Rejects Sponsor Patches From Various Poker Sites

The 2026 World Series of Poker organizers are restricting third-party advertising. CoinPoker ambassador Patrick Leonard warned that he will be playing much less, and others were even denied press passes.
Poker Site Sponsor Stickers Being Rejected for 2026 WSOP
As one of the many 2026 WSOP rule changes, sponsored stickers are now be subject to much stricter scrutiny.
Permission for any patch must be obtained in advance. Many attribute this to the renewed partnership between the WSOP and ESPN. The major American broadcaster is reluctant to advertise questionable brands on its airwaves.
Hints of a tightening of the policy emerged late last year when Bernhard Binder was forced to remove his CoinPoker sticker at the $25k WSOP Paradise final table.
CoinPoker Ambassador Patrick Leonard revealed on Twitter that he submitted a request to play wearing a sticker and was rejected:
Re: 25k Fantasy, not sure what/if I’ll play. Currently been denied to wear a patch, which I believe can lead to disqualification at the tournament directors discretion.
I imagine, as with a lot of other players, this will complicate things. I understand and respect WSOP is more GGlive now and won’t break the rules. The rules are the rules, I’ll respect them even if I disagree with them.
I do think that sites are extremely demotivated to invest in players in our space when the flagship series restricts outside investment. Probably playing $200 daily with Brad Owen at New Orleans.
Good luck everybody at the draft & at the series.
“They are denying everyone. Total joke,” complained Phenom Poker CEO Matthew Valeo.
"Do they reject all sites that offer online poker?" Joe Ingram asked.
– Phenom and Coin were rejected, I don't know about the others. They haven't given any explanation.
Comments stated that ACR and BetMGM representatives obtained permits without any problems.
"Sorry, but they have every right to do this," wrote Todd Wittless. "GGPoker owns the WSOP. You want to wear a patch for an unregulated, competing site which has engaged in lots of shady behavior in recent months. Why should they allow this? You can wear the patch anywhere else, just not in events."
"For sure they have every right, they can do whatever they like! I remember the older days of WSOP full of patched up players (usually fish!) but WSOP completely in their right to do whatever they want."
"In the old days, these sites were not competing with WSOP, and in some cases were cooperative," Todd responded. "Today it's a different landscape, and it makes sense that GG doesn't want you advertising their (unregulated) competition at WSOP events."
But ACR has already said they’re approved right? Good news, I want ACR to do well! I play on there and stake 6 figures/month there. No problems at all with that, but I think it should be clear who can/can’t be allowed patches so that players can know which sites to work with or not?
Around cooperative stuff, same thing. Coin are sending a bunch of people to WSOP in freerolls and giveaway. You won’t see a single bad word said from CoinPoker about WSOP.
I to k everybody (outside perhaps WPT) wants WSOP to be as big as possible. We all support it.
"I understand, but I think WSOP regards ACR as a more stable site," proposed Todd, "whereas Coin has had a lot of weird issues in 2026, to say the least. Same with Phenom, which also got denied. WPTGold will also likely get denied due to the ongoing war between them and WSOP."
Regardless of the sticker feud going on, make sure you secure your WSOP seats online this year. You can inexpensively play for them on GGPoker of course, but also ClubGG, and even Winamax.
If you need help signing up for these rooms, or figuring out the best bonus package for each site, GipsyTeam can take care of it.
"Things that make you go hmmm… 🤔," ACR CEO Phil Nagy joined the discussion. "Are you a poker player or an influencer? I see people playing without patches all the time. Never stopped us."
No idea what your point is. I’ve played 50m+ hands of poker and of course see myself a a “player first”. Out of every poker “ambassador” I probably played more hands/tournaments than any other last year but also I like to try and show the game in a fun and educational way because I love the game. I’ve done both for 20 years.
You own a poker site and it makes you “hmmm” that a site might want people affiliated with them or represent them to wear a patch? If your players weren’t allowed to wear at Triton that wouldn’t bother you?
– So why say "I will play a $200 event rather than WSOP." That's just silly.
I was being ironic sorry, bad British humour.
I meant that I’m way more likely to play wynn 10k instead of a stud event where I usually donate! I’ve never played wynn during wsop ever, I’m super loyal always on wsop property and never leave. I didn’t take a single day off last year, I’m just letting potential teams know that looks very different this year.
I almost certainly won’t be at New Orleans unless you run a $10k Phil’s Thrill there randomly.
Phil Nagy's tweet began gaining views at an astronomical rate, much to the surprise of Patrick Leonard.
"Someone view botted you both obv," Rob Khun hinted. "Both same views basically."
The post currently has 12 million views.
Shaun Deeb tried to compile a list of approved poker room patches:
Can we get a pro from every site to say if they were approved or not approved? So far, I know:
Approved List:
ACR
GGPoker
Denied List:
Phenom
CoinPoker
WPTGold
I’m very pro all patches and promotion.
“Winamax was apparently also allowed 👌,” said Mustafa Kanit.
"BetMGM is approved," David Mileaf pointed out.
"Reminds me of UFC not allowing fighters to wear sponsored ads," wrote PsychoCatFromOuterSpace. "The UFC wanted to be the ones collecting the ad money. Perhaps WSOP is doing the same play. It's disrespectful though IMO.
As usual a corporation is putting profit ahead of ethics."
An excerpt from a BJJBrands article describes the impact this unsponsored "unified kit" dress code had:
Brendan Schaub calculated losing up to 90 percent of previous sponsorship income — dropping from six figures to about US$10 000 per bout. In return, the UFC paid fixed amounts on a tiered scale: $2,500 to newcomers and $40,000 to champions.
Over six years fighters collectively received roughly $39 million — an amount that previously could have been earned annually by a few dozen top athletes through individual deals.
The unified kit virtually wiped independent MMA brands from UFC broadcasts. Legendary companies such as Tapout, Bad Boy, Affliction, Hayabusa and Venum disappeared from screens, although they continued selling merchandise and sponsoring athletes in other promotions.
It's More Than Patches: Press Passes Also Denied
It's not just stickers. Bobby James, who reviews high-stakes games on CoinPoker, wrote that he wasn't issued press credentials.
The same fate befell Alex Duval , who runs a popular YouTube channel and promotes CoinPoker.
"Because of CoinPoker?" Joey wondered.
"Possibly," wrote veteran journalist Lance Bradley, "but more likely because (correct me if I’m wrong here, Alex) he is not with an approved outlet. Individuals applying for credentials without the backing of a media org (w a certain amount of traffic/reach) are likely to be denied this year based on what I’ve heard."
Apparently, this all gave Joey the inspiration for a long-form tweet.
"The poker wars are heating up.
This looks bigger than a patch/logo crackdown.
From how I’m reading the WSOP rules, this is now about controlling what branded/promotional content can be created inside the WSOP and then distributed on YouTube, IG, X, livestreams, etc.
If your content includes sponsor reads, affiliate links, logo overlays, promotional language, or a brand WSOP does not approve, that may no longer be treated as just “creator content.” It may be treated as unauthorized promotion.
CoinPoker and Phenom Poker have reportedly already been denied. I’d assume ClubWPT Gold will face heavy scrutiny too, especially after last year’s final-table promo controversy.
This matters because a ton of poker creators monetize WSOP content through sponsor reads, affiliate deals, logos, patches, overlays, and links. Last year we saw sponsor promotion become part of the bracelet/final-table conversation which is a big inspiration for this change.
So the question is not: “Can I wear this patch?”
The real question is: “Can I use the WSOP as the backdrop for monetized poker content promoting a competing or restricted gaming brand?”
That is a much bigger war.
We'll keep you updated on how everything's going
For this year, expect to see a narrow selection of sponsorships at WSOP tables.
Another Rule Change: No More Chip Dumping for $1M Side Prizes!
The new owners of the World Series of Poker, GGPoker, were clearly not happy with one incident from the 2025 series.
In last year's $1,500 Millionaire Maker tournament, there was a chip dumping scandal. One player handed the victory to his opponent, allowing him to magically come back from a 9-to-1 chip deficit.
Jesse Yaginuma suspiciously folds top pair go on the flop, to a c-bet
Both finalists received prize money, promotional money from the WPT, and the almost unanimous support of the community.
But the organizers couldn't let it slide. After the tournament, Jesse Yaginuma and James Carroll were banned for the remainder of the series, which remains in effect and is rumored to be permanent.
This year's rules were amended, dubbed the "ClubWPT Gold Rule" on social media. The new rule, 40 (e) states:
"Host Properties will penalize any act that, in the sole and absolute discretion of Host Properties, is inconsistent with these WSOP Official Tournament Rules or the best interests of the WSOP Tournament. Such act includes, but is not limited to, the Participant accepting any payment or prize from a third-party person or entity (e.g., pursuant to a promotion, product or service) based on the outcome or results of any WSOP Event, in which case the Participant shall forfeit all of the WSOP prize money; if the prize money has already been paid to Participant, then the Host Properties shall have the right to the return of all the prize money plus interest."
We break down every 2026 WSOP rule change, including several that other publications missed completely. This includes rule changes about late tournament entry, credit card fees, sponsored players, and even third party prize money.
Technically, even side bets between players and fantasy drafts are prohibited.
WSOP overlords are unlikely to pay attention to this. Very few doubt that the changes were made specifically to combat situations similar to what occurred last year. The rules state that all disputes will be resolved "in the sole and absolute discretion of Host Properties."
