The worst purchase of Timex's life, Tom Dwan returns to the US, Doug Polk get's into stand-up, Martin Kabrhel won $750k in a freeroll and other short news.
PokerStars starting out holding online poker games back in 2001 and now the company is worth over 6 billion dollars. They sponsor a slew of tournaments like the European Poker Tour, UK and Ireland Poker Tour, plus a handful of others. Over the years, PokerStars has remained on top of the online poker industry. They’ve expanded to offer fantastic online casino games and sports betting.
And soon he will debut on the popular channel Kill Tony – this is a comedy show-podcast that gives a chance to aspiring comedians.
Polk won the gig playing poker. The show's host and author, Tony Hinchcliffe, explained how it happened in the latest episode, when a contestant brought up best room in Texas, The Lodge:
– "It is true, without a doubt," Tony agreed. "And, the best heads-up poker player, in the world, Doug Polk. I didn't know him at all, and then one night after the taping of this show, people kept coming up to me and saying, 'Do you know who's here? Doug Polk's here.'
I'm like, who the f*** is a Doug Polk? What's a Doug Polk? All f***ing night, I swear to God, 15, 20 people. So by the time 1:30 comes around, finally here's this guy Doug Polk. I was already drunk at that point, and I go, 'I'm good at poker, I'll play you heads-up.' And so we bet, if he wins, he wanted to do a minute on the show. If I win, he gives me $20,000.
So there we are at Mitzi's, and we play heads-up poker. Me and the best in the world. 20 minutes later, guess who won $20,000 f***ing dollars? Me. Thank you.
And at that point it had only been 20 minutes, but I was kind of warmed up, so I go, 'Tell you what. Even though I won, let's go double or nothing. Let's go $40,000 vs a minute of stand up comedy.' So, I won $20,000 and we doubled the bet to $40,000... and any day now, he's going to be popping onto the show.
Yeah, he won."
You may notice that "double or nothing" was incorrectly played out in Tony's example, but Doug explained that on Twitter.
Patrick Curren asked, "Was the second heads up match for $20K or $40K? Because Tony said ‘we doubled the bet to forty’. Double-or-nothing would mean the second match was for $20K and if Doug wins it’s a wash. It wasn’t double or nothing, it appears that it was double or 1 minute on Kill Tony."
Over the past two months, Jesse Lonis has won a PokerGO series event, an EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller, and two titles at the Triton Montenegro series – the Mystery Bounty and the Main Event. In the Mystery, Jesse earned 12 envelopes, in which he won $480,000.
After winning the Triton Main Event, Jesse wrote :
– "Emotional win. I really came from nothing. This win is for all those people out there working everyday to get by. They ask me a lot what is it like to be battling against the best players in the world. All I can think about is the fact that the best player in the world is sitting behind a desk or putting on a roof somewhere. I say this because if it weren’t for a few life events going certain ways for me I never would have even had a chance to pursue this career. Forever grateful for these experiences and the support from fans all over the world! Poker is a beautiful game that hasn’t even hit the tip of the iceberg yet for potential growth! Hoping I can be a catalyst to help it!🦍USA❤️"
This is a screenshot of the smarthand for this year in the WPN network at 2k+ limits
The site has been losing a lot of hands this year, but based on surveys and personal experience, no more than 20-30%, so you can roughly imagine the volume of the game. The top grinders who spend many hours in the lobby and play absolutely all available tables play 12-15k hands per month. And now pay attention, 80-85% of these games are played without amateurs (even those who lost at least 10bb\100). It turns out that being a grinder and spending a lot of hours sitting in the lobby, the best you can achieve is 2k hands per month with an amateur. And this is the site with the largest volume of play at 2k+.
There is also GG, but there are about the same number of tables there that allow you to beat the rake of 6bb\100 (we are talking about 2k specifically).
Of course, there is also the path of regwars, matches, cross-books and all the like. Then you can play much more, but as a person who has been winning all his life in reg-teams at 5bb/100, and then lost the profit in a couple of years, I can say that this path is not for everyone and the bankroll may not be enough to reach your expectation (as well as time, since in a couple of years regwars will not be collected at these rates so consistently).
As a result of all the above, many regs from the same CGWC on CoinPoker are already playing tournaments more than cash tables or connecting 1k.

–Back in the United States finally and ready for WSOP. Was a strange trip for me, net profitable between the two stops, but found myself enjoying Triton the least I ever had. Probably will be taking a break from it for a while.
I think the hardest part about playing high stakes mtt isn’t the poker, it’s just showing up every day to try your best and most likely lose large quantities of money in very public fashion. The way skewed distributions work, you mostly lose.
I’m always very very impressed by the guys who can enter every mtt without blinking and being seemingly unbothered. People like Dvoress, Adrian, Stevie, Ike etc don’t get enough credit for how difficult that actually is.
"So very true," agreed Jans Arrends. "Taking a break from it is a good idea if your not a superhuman like the guys you mentioned. See you in Vegas."
– Re the 100 people vs Gorilla thing... Considering it probably didn't take a village of humans take down down Sabretooth tigers and all sorts of shit with proper planning, probably humans will win that one in most contexts.
– Bought some chip racks that only fit 19 chips per stack. Might literally be the worst thing I've ever purchased and I'm kind of in disbelief how this is even possible
“Impressive considering you've purchased Ethereum,” they noted in the comments.
But Mike no longer believes in ETH.
– ETH at $9,972.69 – what’s your next step?
– Buy some more bitcoin for $2,500,000.
A freeroll with a prize pool of $1.5 million for VIP clients of casinos that are part of the MGM Resorts International network was held in Las Vegas.
Phil Hellmuth said he was joined at the table by Los Angeles Clippers coach Ty Lue, Hustler regular Wesley Fay, mixed-game legend David Oppenheim and fan favorite Martin Kabrhel.
It was Martin who took first place, for which he received $750k. Our GipsyTeam freerolls don't have the same prize pools, but there's still money to be made without any investment.
– "They took my phone n devices, didn’t give in to my repeated requests for medical care, or my legal rights (nearest relative, tribunal, imha), for ~2weeks, and did what they could to bar me from all contact.
There were a few dece ppl, but majority followed (illegal) orders."
Many people pried for more details, though Tom only replied to a select few:
– Were you threatening violence to yourself or others and therefore it was necessary to restrain you ( strapped down ) and administer sedatives? This is standard practice for those experiencing a psychotic episode and is done for their safety and the safety of others.
– Ofc I wasn’t… Lot of people were led to believe I was, even though almost all the nurses seemed to quite quickly trust I was calm and not a threat to others or myself.
– What was the medical care you were requesting?
– 2 x rays (hand, rib), and at various times EKG or at least the finger heart monitor thing (the thing that costs like 5$ at CVS lol). Once they basically agreed to let me go, they finally followed up w appropriate-ish medical care (almost 3weeks late)
– What happened to you to make all this happen, the whole thing has been a bit cloak n dagger. Everyone just presumed you’d been hacked
– If I knew that I never woulda been spazz tweeting. 😂
– One of the largest wagers I’ve ever placed, TIME TO BLEED GREEN🍀🍀
The bet didn't pay off. The Boston Celtics, on whom Rampage bet $23.5k, lost to the New York Knicks with a score of 113:121. During the match, Boston led by 14 points, but first lost the advantage in the score, and then lost all chances of winning the match due to a serious injury to their leader Jason Tatum.
In the comments, several people boasted that they ran to bet on New York as soon as they read the tweet from the lucky Rampage.
Alan Keating posted a video on his channel from a charity tournament with players from another NBA team, the Golden State Warriors.
That was the day of the high-profile trade of Luka Doncic from Dallas to the Los Angeles Lakers. The players' reactions spread across social media and are gaining millions of views on non-poker channels.
